winter fun

We had a weekend of remembering why we love each other's company so much. It wasn't intended but we had the most fun together for 3 days than we've had in a really long time.
On Friday night we went to something that the DNT claimed a "best bet" for the weekend. It was a Wine Taste Off at Nokomis Restaurant. It was truely the best wine tasting we've ever been to paired with the best food ever. This place never ceases to amaze us! We spent 4 hours there and had the time of our lives. We met the vendors and owners, one of which encouraged Mike to drop off his resume when the time is right.

Saturday was a low key day. We put on some Jimmy Hendrix and did some hard core cleaning (moved all the appliances, washed a bunch of rugs, etc).

On Sunday our goal was to make it to the one and only store within a 100 mile radius that had Mariokart for Wii in stock... the Ashland, WI Walmart. We got there in time to snatch one up. After a high class lunch at McDonalds we headed for the scenic route home through Bayfield. We stopped at our favorite place, Eckels Pottery and purchased a couple mugs and a new soap dish. The pottery intern really liked his MPR radio as the bass was up so loud that all the pottery was rattling. Fun times. Then Mike had the adventurous idea to drive the "ice road" from Bayfield to Madeline Island. For those of you who may not know what this is, it is basically driving on Lake Superior on the ice along a path that has been plowed. It is the only means of transportation for the people living on the island to get to the mainland. We were driving my car so I was pretty resistant to the idea at first but after seeing all the other cars on the road I became a little more comfortable with the idea. And I'm glad I did. We spent the next couple of hours driving around the island exploring 98% of the island that we'd never seen before. It was beautiful and made us wish we had a vacation home there.
We arrived home after sunset and spent the rest of the evening playing Mariokart. What a great day!

garrison keillor

What a great weekend we had! I went and saw "Bride Wars" with Sarah on Friday night. Mikey and I went to the Scenic Cafe on Saturday with Nikki and Henry. We spent all day Sunday relaxing and then did some shopping on Monday. I bought 2 new pairs of heels on clearance. Mikey got a new fleece shirt for work (out with the Navy Blue & Black combo.. huge fashion no-no).
Spring semester started at UMD yesterday so I have my first class tonight. Work has been busy with the students back in session. Last night we attended an Inauguration Party that Chester Creek Cafe (Mikey's workplace) hosted. We had spam sushi, peanut M&M's and wine. Weird, huh? It was fun to be around all the energy as we watched a taped version of the events earlier in the day.
Then this morning the Home Depot guy came and installed our new screen door on the back porch. It looks nice and we're glad to have it back.
Lastly, for our 'Rents- check this out:

We've known a sewer upgrade has been coming for a while... owning a home really stinks some times (pun intended).

Oh my gosh, I almost forgot to tell the story of the title for this blog. So Mikey decided to pick up a shift at the Cafe for this Saturday. It's a serving shift (his first ever) and earlier in the week he was telling me that he wished he was cooking because then he could have said he cooked for Garisson Keillor (who's coming to dinner Sat. night). After Mikey told me he was serving Sat. night, I told him how neat it was that now he'll have a 50% chance of serving Mr. Keillor. He had completely forgotten about this. I think he said something like, "Oh, S*#@"! Funny how he was completely comfortable hiding in the kitchen but now that he's going to have face time, it's a different story. I laughed pretty hard... and now Mikey's nervous...

kramer for hire

In our desperate attempt to buy Mariokart for our Wii, we ventured over to the Superior Wally World. No Mariokart was found but we did notice this:

It appears that humungous white fluffy ragdoll cats with pretty blue eyes are desirable animals for video games. Who knew? So, since times are tough we wanted to let everyone know that Kramer (or his image) is for hire:)

23 below

COLD... that's how I would describe it here. I about cried this morning when my car wouldn't start for the first time ever! My trusty Passat just couldn't muster the courage. Thank goodness the Trib revved right up. I had to awaken the sleeping bear (aka Mikey) to jump my car. I guess the good thing that came out of this is that I learned how to hook up jumper cables. We must have -40 to -50 degree wind chills today. The wind is whipping and the air temp is 23 below zero. Pure frigidness...

Anna is literally bouncing off the walls, or me, or Mikey, or the couch...
We need to get her out this weekend. It's suppose to warm up to a balmy 20 degrees on Saturday.

I am looking forward to a weekend of relaxing and re-charging to prepare for another busy semester of classes. We still need to finalize the specs for a new bathroom vanity, sink & faucet. So, we'll need to do some shopping this weekend.

Happy Birthday to my mom on Tuesday! I hope you'll like the gift I'm sending (I must say, I'm a bit jealous).

Have a great weekend!

it's official...

Mikey is now a professional Wii tennis player! He surpassed the 1000 point mark a few minutes ago. In the 5+ years that I've known him, I've never seen him so excited about a new toy. Favorite games include baseball, tennis, fishing, and cow riding (yes, really).

We're back to Laptop Land (a.k.a. I started school again today and so I can rent a laptop again through UMD). I think that's the only tangible perk to taking classes. For the next two weeks I'm taking Management of Information Technology. Then I'll have Corporate Finance and HR Challenges for spring semester.

We had a great New Years celebration. Mike's parents were here as well as Nellie & Bruce (neighbors). Mike made leg of lamb, smashed potatoes, and shrimp with coconut cashew basmati rice. We managed to get the basement walls painted (thanks John & Dianne) as well as our bedroom. Then on Sunday we spent the day digging out from our 4th major snowstorm in a month. It's been a busy couple of weeks. The best part was unplugging our alarm clock for 8 days! We feel refreshed and ready to face 2009. We hope you are too!
